What is a cat cafe?
In 1998, the world’s first cat café opened in Taipei, Taiwan. It quickly became a tourist destination, attracting visitors from Japan and all over the globe. The concept blossomed in Japan and since 2004, over 150 cat cafes have opened. Tourists carried the idea across the ocean and the first café opened in San Francisco in January 2014. Since then, 40 more have opened in the US with River Kitty being the second in Indiana. The foreign cat cafés are designed for relaxing companionship, sort of a pet rental time, with the cats being permanent residents. The American model is all about adoption and finding forever homes for cats.
Who are we?
We are Annette Gries and Nancy Drake (co-owners), good friends who share love and respect for all fur babies, particularly kitties. We each have a rescue cat and have embraced this calling to help place kitties in forever homes! We have been overwhelmed by the positive and supportive response to this endeavor!
Can I make a reservation for 30 minutes?
Unfortunately, our reservation system only allows for hour reservations at this time. We welcome those that want a 30 minutes visit to just walk in.
Where do we get our kitties?
We have partnered with the Vanderburgh Humane Society and all of the kitties come to us immunized, microchipped, neutered, and healthy. They are ready for a permanent forever home! The adoption process will take place at the VHS and they receive 100% of the adoption fee.
